Virtual Reality and BIM
Virtual Reality is a powerful design tool allowing project teams to improve the communication of design concepts. Non-technical people are now able to understand what is to be built, what will be built, and how it will be built, with their own eyes. This is leading to improved feedback at every stage of the project, and providing important opportunities for stakeholders to add value to the process, along with key insights into the end user’s requirements. BIM Technology companies are working hard to streamline the interoperability of VR platforms and their own software.
While there is an upfront cost to purchase the hardware and software — in the thousands, but not tens of thousands — they are feasible and worthwhile additions to budgets that demonstrate their benefits quickly. As organizations are embracing new technologies — BIM, and VR — in all project phases, they are recognizing the ability of these tools to deliver impressive results.
